odelo receives the GKV innovation award for the rear light of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate. Managing Director Muhammet Yildiz accepted the award on 19 October at the K trade fair in Düsseldorf, Germany.
"This award is a great honour for us", says a delighted Muhammet Yildiz. "It is confirmation that our rear light is the best possible combination of sophisticated design and innovative technology", adds the Managing Director.
odelo uses the LPKF hybrid laser welding process to manufacture the rear light for the Mercedes Estate — the first company in the industry to do so. The process allows the smallest geometrically possible connection between two components, thereby granting automotive designers maximum design freedom: Mirrored surfaces or light functions can now be implemented right up to the edge of the housing.
odelo submitted the new rear light to the Verband Technische Kunststoffprodukte (German Association for Technical Plastic Products) for evaluation. Ten products from German companies that work with plastic received the award, which recognises particularly innovative designs and manufacturing solutions for plastics. As one of these ten manufacturers, the Stuttgart-based specialist in rear lights for premium vehicles received the renowned innovation award from the association. Other products that received awards include a multipole connector for an engine control unit from Bosch as well as a control panel for washing machines and tumbler dryers from Miele.
The GKV/TecPart innovation award is an established name. The submitted products are an indicator of a company's ability to innovate and its performance. "Nowadays, car lighting is no longer simply a source of light, but increasingly an expression of the vehicle's brand and the model's identity. odelo is proud to make a significant contribution to the design of the Mercedes E-Class Estate", explains Muhammet Yildiz.
Michael Weigelt, Managing Director of TecPart, presented the prizes to representatives from the winning companies. He especially emphasised the high degree of innovation shown by the submitted products. By granting the award to the rear light of the Mercedes E-Class Estate, the jury acknowledged "the outstanding manufacturing solution with which odelo is setting new benchmarks in the area of rear light manufacturing and design".
The specialist jury –consisting of experts from the fields of science, education and application – was also impressed by the quality of all the submitted products. "Some of the products presented represent the limit of what is currently possible in plastics technology", concluded the jury.
